The really annoying thing that sums up my frustration: no one is saying what the material is, and then letting me, little 'ol pleb me, deciding for myself. Freedom to choose a lot of things is going behind some dark, tightly drawn curtain. It's making me more and more a free speech absolutist.

I used to live in the Grassmarket in Edinburgh and worked there (as a solicitor) for a number of years. I went to the Fringe every year from 2007-2013. I have seen Jerry Sadowitz perform. Offence is his thing, in addition to magic (at which he is incredible). He did this trouser-swap thing once that yes, did involve a brief view of his penis but was so astonishing one almost didn't notice.

I moved away from Edinburgh in 2014, and even then, I remember thinking, "that bloke's days are numbered".

Your writing style is just perfect. Very accessible, with balanced hints of cynicism and lightheartedness thrown in. Please keep up the good work. And when my ship comes in, I'll become a paying member; for now my Locals subscription to Triggernometry will have to do. (Sorry.)

I have an idea!

New comedy panel show call 'Mock the Woke', any takers?

So very well written. 'seal clapping' is the perfect phrase for the unthinking knee jerk capitulation to the 'woke' version of 'virtue'.

Another instance of censorship from the enemies of free speech, the social warriors, the political correct class, blindly moving society into Orwellian, soviet style totalitarianism of which they are blissfully ignorant

you dont give offence - you take offence

and if you take offence - what is your point?

unfortunately it was only a matter of time before this happened to Sadowitz

as he said years ago in his only video "I am a left wing comedian trying to be a right wing comedian wheras Ben Elton is trying to do the opposite"

there is no line in comedy to cross

Venues should discriminate by taste, it should be a personal taste of the manager. If the manager is offended? This manager of this venue doesn't want Sadowitz? Ok fuck Sadowitz at this venue. Thats not cancel culture, its having a comedy scene of human taste and variation. Most comedy managers will recognise that you are shit comic doing right wing social media clout chasing Konstantin! The state of comedy in UK today, it's you Konstantin!

Have to admit I hadn't heard of Jerry before. Tried to look up some of his work on YouTube but it seems as though he's been erased there. You can only find commentary on his cancelation... And thus the limiting of free speech rolls on. It is definitely time for a decentralized version of the internet and platforms like YouTube to emerge. So far attempts seem to only shift hard to the opposite which isn't great either. Would be great if you guys could delve into this. I imagine you have some ideas about what such platforms could look like.

Poor Dennis below assumes that here today/ gone tomorrow theatre managers can only book comedians who align with the managements values.

Michael Ravi's at Glasto should only presumably book Marc Bolans ashes, Nat King Coles Brylcreem and Glenn Miller's meal tray.

Dennis clearly hasn't a funnybone in his body, his last laugh was at the death of Maggie Thatcher, I'd say.

Poor Dennis...the face of discrimination and dimness in 2022.

No father either, I'd bet.
